What are the difficulties in producing 0.05mm precision ultra-thin stainless steel?

Precision ultra-thin stainless steel with a thickness of 0.05mm is a very thin metal material, which is equivalent to a few tenths of a piece of paper, and even thinner than a human hair.

Such a thickness is commonly known as 5 silks, because 1mm is divided into 100 parts, each part is 1 silk, so 0.05mm is 5 silks.

Due to its ultra-thin and precise characteristics, 0.05mm thick stainless steel is widely used in many fields, such as the electronics industry, optical instruments and microelectronics technology.

In the precision machining and plastic film industries, stainless steel of this thickness is also often used as a key material.

The production difficulty of 0.05mm ultra-thin stainless steel is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Dimensional accuracy control: Stainless steel precision strip needs to meet strict dimensional accuracy requirements. For 0.05mm ultra-thin stainless steel, its thickness must be controlled within a very small error range.

Mechanical performance requirements:

Ultra-thin stainless steel has specific requirements in terms of grain size, strength and hardness, ductility and toughness. For example, the grain size needs to be controlled between 7-9 levels. The smaller the grain size, the higher the strength and hardness, and the stronger the ductility and toughness.

Brightness requirements:

The surface finish requirements of ultra-thin stainless steel are very high, because its surface roughness is very low and its ability to reflect light is very strong.

This requires strict control of surface quality during the production process to ensure that the brightness of the stainless steel plate meets the requirements.

The production of 0.05mm ultra-thin stainless steel requires overcoming four major technical difficulties: rolling, annealing, high-level surface control and performance control.

During the rolling process, due to the extremely thin thickness of the steel plate, problems such as belt breaking are prone to occur. The annealing process needs to control the appropriate temperature and time to ensure the mechanical properties of the material.

Since the quality control requirements of ultra-thin stainless steel are very high and the production is very difficult, strict quality control is required throughout the production process.
