Why do stainless steel sheets bend and crack?

2024-05-14

Stainless steel sheets may bend and crack during processing or use. The main reasons include:

Material problem: If the material of the stainless steel sheet is uneven or contains inclusions, stress concentration will easily occur during the processing, leading to bending and cracking.

Improper processing parameters: During the processing process, if unsuitable processing parameters are selected, such as excessive temperature or excessive processing intensity, it will cause excessive deformation or local stress concentration of the stainless steel sheet, leading to cracking.

Poor processing technology: Poor processing technology can also cause the stainless steel sheet to crack. For example, a too rapid cooling process or inappropriate mold design may cause stress concentration, resulting in cracking.

Surface defects: If there are defects on the surface of the stainless steel sheet, such as scratches, pits, etc., these defects will become points of stress concentration, leading to cracking under the action of stress.

External force: During use, if the stainless steel sheet is affected by external force, such as excessive impact or extrusion force, it will also cause cracks in the sheet.
