Why do stainless steel screws break easily?

2024-04-29

There may be several reasons why stainless steel screws break easily:

Material quality: Low-quality stainless steel screws may have defects such as impurities and inclusions, making them insufficient in strength and toughness and prone to breakage during use.

Design issues: If the design of the screw is unreasonable, for example, the thread is too small or the designed structure has local stress concentration, it may cause the screw to break easily.

Usage environment: When screws are used in harsh environments such as moisture, corrosion, high temperature or low temperature, it will accelerate metal corrosion or fatigue damage, thereby reducing its strength and increasing the risk of fracture.

Over-tightening: If a screw is over-tightened beyond its ability to handle, it will overstress the screw, increasing the likelihood of breakage.

Installation operation: During the installation process, if the stainless steel screws are used improperly, such as excessive torque, improper screwdriver use, etc., it may also cause the screws to break.

In order to reduce the breakage of stainless steel screws, the following measures can be taken:

  • Choose stainless steel screws with reliable quality and ensure that their materials and manufacturing processes meet standards;
  • Correctly select screw specifications and models according to design requirements to avoid screws that are too fragile due to unreasonable design;
  • During the installation process, follow the correct installation procedures, control the tightening strength, and avoid over-tightening;
  • Pay attention to the usage environment and try to avoid exposing stainless steel screws to harsh environments such as moisture, corrosion or high temperature;
  • Regularly inspect and maintain screw connecting parts, and replace aging or damaged screws in a timely manner.
